Dr Peter Lovatt, Academic Psychologist

Dr Peter Lovatt is an academic psychologist, former professional dancer and internationally recognised Dance Psychologist, known as Doctor Dance. He founded the Dance Psychology Lab in 2008, where his research explored how dance and movement affect thinking, emotion, social connection and physical wellbeing, including work with people living with Parkinson’s.

Peter has taught and conducted research at several universities, including Cambridge, and developed dance psychology courses for the Royal Ballet School. He is the author of Dance Psychology and The Dance Cure, which was named one of The Guardian’s best books of 2020.

Through the Doctor Dance Academy, Peter makes the science and practical application of dance psychology accessible to dancers, teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and anyone interested in the relationship between movement and wellbeing.

Peter is also the Founder of Move Assure, a dance programme to support mental wellbeing, which he established with legendary dancer, Darcy Bussell.
